There are ways
you can extend the life of your earthmoving buckets without having to purchase a brand new one. The two most common options include an armour package, or a wear package. Commonly mistaken as the same thing.
So what is the difference between the two?
Armour package
An armour package refers to a set of add-on protective measures applied to your earthmoving bucket or attachment. Typically, these measures are attached to the exterior of the attachments and include reinforced components or specialised coatings to help protect the bucket from damage due to abrasion, impact, or other hazards commonly encountered on construction sites or in tough working environments.
Examples of components that may be included in an armour package include:
- Heel blocks
- Side wear strips
- Inner liners
- Half arrow protection between the teeth
- Bolt on side cutters
- Chock blocks along the legs
- Heavy-duty teeth to resist wear and damage
- Reinforced blade edges to prevent chipping and cracking
- Protective coatings or liners to reduce abrasion
- Weld on wear spots (Spot welded to the edges)
The components included in your armour package will depend on your specific bucket and the demands of your application. While adding an armour package to your earthmoving equipment extends the lifespan of your attachments, it also helps reduce downtime, increase productivity, and increases machine performance.
Wear package
A wear package on the other hand, typically refers to a set of replaceable components designed to wear out over time and be easily replaced.
This can include:
- Your bucket cutting edge
- Your blade wear bar
- Excavator tracks
- Bolt on side cutters
- Bolt on gum protectors
As your bucket wears, machine efficiency is compromised. Specifically, a wear package helps to maintain equipment performance by replacing the parts that have become worn or damaged due to normal use.
Whether you choose to add a wear package or an armour package to your bucket, both will be saving you money in the long run. Either option will help reduce wear and tear on your bucket, and extend the life of your bucket. All saving you money by not having to replace your entire bucket.
